DevCore was founded and developed by Trevor George, a professional PHP developer, in 2008.
Having worked for New Zealand Police for a number of years as their lead PHP developer, site security is something of a passion for me.
I began working on the idea of a secure codebase on which to develop small, issue focused websites.
This was quite successful and the idea evolved as more and more sites were built.
I then went to Chrometoaster, a leading web design company, where the concept was developed even further.
The first fully fledged DevCore site was built in 2008 and was a huge success. The build time was 10 days.
The site was finished even before the designer had come up with the design concept! Deployment was a breeze.
End user training consisted of a quick demo halfway through the build process. They had no trouble using the system and remarked that it was much easier to use than their other websites.
I was onto a winner!
In April 2009 I was made redundant due to the world wide recession, so I went contracting.
I started a contract at the New Zealand Transport Authority helping to build their new website.
DevCore was designed for this type of environment. It was a very large project (the amalgamation of two large government departments) with multiple developers, tight deadlines, and all the usual problems associated with working in a large government organisation.
The website was launched on time, under budget and is still performing well.
Everyone was very happy with the result.
I was even more convinced that what I was doing was the right thing.
I felt that other developers should be able to have the same freedom to concentrate on the build process, instead of trying to hack some off-the-shelf CMS into something that will do what the client wants.
So I decided to share my code with the world.
And that brings us to this website. (which is built on DevCore obviously).
I am passionate about building websites that are secure and stable and easy to modify.
The web is not a static place, so why should your website be static? Why not let it evolve with a life of its own?
With the DevCore code as its base, your website can be whatever you want it to be.
Head over to the Downloads section and grap a copy of the code any play around with it. And remember to let me know how you get on. I'd love to hear back about how you are using it.
